Microsoft has just announced that iOS customers can download mobile Office Suites for free.
Microsoft has been feeling mighty generous these days. First they announced that subscribers to the Office 365 productivity suite would receive OneDrive cloud storage for free and now they are offering Office on mobile devices for free as well.
iOS iPad users will be able to benefit from the free subscription which will allow you to edit documents in either Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Previously, Office for mobile devices was on a subscription only basis but now users can use basic tools without having to pay.
What’s the catch? Only the simple tools will be free, any advanced editing that needs to be done will still be part of the paid subscription.
Since releasing Office for iPad, the app has been downloaded over 40 million times so Microsoft hopes that this new strategy will get the program on everyone’s device to help increase revenue.
The company is also working on making the Office programs available for Android devices as well. Microsoft just announced that they are releasing a public beta next year.
