Insomnia is a growing issue in the US so Runtastic have released a new app to help users monitor their sleeping patterns.
The fitness tracking app maker, Runtastic has released a new app called Sleep Better which tracks your sleep cycles and wakes you up at the ideal time in the morning.
The app is available to both Android and iOS customers and keeps tabs on how long you stay awake in bed and how long you are in deep sleep, light sleep and REM sleep.
While most sleep apps are conjoined with fitness trackers, Runtastic decided to focus purely on sleeping patterns and what factors effect a good nights sleep.
In order to determine this, the app tracks your workouts, caffeine intake and other daily habits that have been scientifically proven to effect sleeping patterns. The app also comes with a function that allows you to take notes down about your dreams.
The alarm clock function on the app also has a feature that will wake you up within an “optimal time window,” which is often when you are in a light sleep as compared to a deep sleep. This has been proven to give you more energy through the day and makes you feel that you have had a good nights sleep.
CEO and co-founder of Runtastic, Florian Gschwandtner stated, “If we’ve learned anything in recent years, it’s the importance of a balanced, 24 hour approach to overall health and fitness. The Sleep Better app is our first, dedicated foray into helping users achieve better sleep quality.”
The app is now free to download on both iOS and Android.
